The duct is not visible, but the opening of the duct, through which saliva drains, can be seen on the lining of the mouth. Sometimes these are more obvious on one side, but they are present in both cheeks. Cheek benign change - Bite Fibroma This is a common benign lesion, most often stimulated by bite trauma and presenting as a firm, smooth, rounded mass with pink overlying mucosa. Cheek benign change - Reactive hyperkeratosis Friction on oral lining tissues can lead to thickening present as a white change and may be related to rough dental surfaces and biting habits. Cheek benign change - Fordyce Spots These are benign changes that can occur in the mouth or on other parts of the body that represent variations of normal. They are not infectious or a tumor, and treatment is not typically needed. Cheek Pre-cancer - Leukoplakia Verrucous Note that this has a wart-like appearance and typically can have a broad superficial spread. If it persists longer than 2 weeks it should be evaluated by a medical provider. Cheek Pre-cancer - Buccal mucosa leukoplakia This persistent area on the inside of the cheek should be evaluated by a medical professional as it may be cancer or precancer. Cheek cancer - Buccal squamous cell carcinoma This is a squamous cell cancer of the back of the inside of the cheek. The use of tobacco products, especially smokeless tobacco, can predispose to these cancers.
